Extradition of 'Tren de Aragua' Member Approved: One of Chile's Most Wanted

Justice

The Colombian government has approved the extradition of Dayonis Junior Orozco Castillo, a member of the notorious criminal group 'Tren de Aragua', to Chile. Orozco, who holds dual Colombian-Venezuelan citizenship, is sought by Chilean authorities for the illegal possession of firearms and the murder of Carabineros Lieutenant Emmanuel Sánchez Soto in Santiago in April 2024. The crime involved a failed robbery attempt by a group of thieves, during which Orozco and others shot Sánchez when he intervened. After the incident, Orozco fled Chile using a fake identity and traveled through Bolivia, Peru, and Ecuador before being apprehended in Colombia. The Colombian Supreme Court endorsed the extradition based on a request from Chile, despite a similar request from Venezuela, where Orozco originally planned to flee. The Colombian authorities captured him thanks to an Interpol red notice, ultimately sealing his extradition to face justice in Chile.
