Heavy Rain in Northern Mie Causes Flooding and Evacuation Orders

Climate change

In the northern region of Mie Prefecture, heavy rainfall from September 12 to 13 led to severe flooding in Yokkaichi City, marking a record hourly rainfall of 123.5 millimeters. The torrential downpour resulted in waterlogged vehicles and rainwater infiltration into underground parking areas, causing widespread immobilization and property damage. Consequently, a temporary evacuation order was issued for 57,186 residents across 29,323 households in Yokkaichi and Inabe City. Disruptions extended to public transportation as well. Additionally, the local government invoked the Disaster Relief Act to ensure continuous rescue efforts and support for affected areas.
