Gillian Anderson, renowned for her role in 'Sex Education,' has compiled a book titled 'Want,' which includes hundreds of sexual fantasies submitted by women worldwide. Responding to a call Anderson made through The Guardian in February 2023, over 1,800 anonymous submissions were received. The book aims to destigmatize the discussion of sexual fantasies among women and includes Anderson’s own fantasies. Despite her comfort with the topic, she found it surprisingly intimate to write her own experiences. The project echoes the 1973 book 'My Secret Garden' by Nancy Friday, but Anderson has set boundaries to exclude illegal and non-consensual fantasies. Anderson highlights the persistence of shame surrounding women's sexuality, even in modern times, and hopes her book will foster a safer, more open discourse about sexual desires.
